Olio lucano extra virgin olive oil
Olio lucano PGI: extra virgin oil from the hill groves of all Basilicata
This oil gathers the cultivars of a whole region, from Maiatica to Ogliarola del Vulture, grown mostly on inland hills and slopes. Olives are picked from the tree between mid-September and late January and pressed within 48 hours. Excavations at Metaponto trace the olive tree here back to the 6th century BC.
- Green to golden in colour, with a medium fruitiness and bitterness and pungency in step
- Notes of freshly cut grass, artichoke, tomato, almond and apple may come through
- What every oil of the appellation shares is a balance between aroma and flavour
How to enjoy it. Use it raw or for cooking, over pasta, vegetables, meat and fish, as Basilicata's kitchens do. Store it somewhere dark and cool, at 14-18 °C, away from heat and strong smells.
