Gargano Femminello lemon
Gargano Femminello lemon PGI: fragrant peel from Puglia's northern coast
Locals call it limone nostrale, and you notice it by scent before sight, thanks to a peel loaded with essential oils. It grows in the citrus gardens of Rodi Garganico, Vico del Gargano and Ischitella, cut from the tree by hand with no artificial ripening. Besides its PGI, it belongs to the Slow Food Presidium for Gargano citrus.
- Shiny citrine-yellow skin with an intense aroma
- Very juicy flesh with a yellow-green tint
- Fruits of at least 50 mm and 80 g, shaped anywhere from oval to almost round
How to enjoy it. Squeeze the juice and grate the zest over meat, fish or fried food, where it can stand in for richer dressings. It keeps well chilled, or in a cool pantry away from damp.
