Limone di Sorrento (Sorrento lemon)
Limone di Sorrento PGI: the Ovale lemon ripened in the shade of straw mats
Between Vico Equense, Massa Lubrense and Capri, the trees grow under chestnut pergolas covered with mats that shelter them from cold and slow their ripening. The result is the Ovale di Sorrento, hand-picked from January to October, summer included. A PGI since 2000.
- Elliptical and medium to large, each fruit weighing at least 85 grams
- Citrine-yellow skin, highly fragrant with abundant essential oils
- Plenty of juice, its high acidity well balanced by natural sugars
How to enjoy it. Squeeze it, use it raw over fish and seafood pasta, or grate it into desserts and marmalade. On the peninsula its peel is what goes into limoncello.
