Limone di Rocca Imperiale (lemon)
Limone di Rocca Imperiale PGI: Femminello lemons picked year-round
One town on the Basilicata border, hills that block the north wind and a sea that softens the winter: Femminello lemons have grown here since the 1600s and are hand-picked in every month. Local traders were already carrying them to the fairs of Naples around 1865-1870.
- Elongated fruit, pale green to yellow, almost free of seeds
- Plenty of pale juice with no sharp or bitter edge
- A peel rich in essential oils, the source of its intense fragrance
How to enjoy it. Squeeze it for drinks and sauces, grate the zest over fish, meat or spaghetti, fold it into cake creams. Store it in the fridge or somewhere cool, ideally in a paper bag.
