Clementine di Calabria (clementines)
Clementine di Calabria PGI: easy to peel, all but seedless
From the Sibari plain to the Locride, the lowlands and coasts of all five Calabrian provinces grow clementines that the mild climate ripens as early as October. Orchards are kept well away from mandarin trees, so the fruit reaches the table with few seeds or none. Picking runs on until February.
- Round and slightly flattened, with a smooth, thin peel that comes away easily
- Orange, fragrant, almost melting flesh, at least 40 per cent juice
- Packs and crates carry the Clementine di Calabria name and the PGI mention
How to enjoy it. Enjoy them as they are at breakfast, as a snack or after dinner, in segments through a salad, or freshly squeezed. They keep for weeks in the fridge.
