Trebisacce late blond orange
Trebisacce late blond orange: ripened on the tree into early summer
Growers in the upper Ionian area of Cosenza have farmed this navel-less orange since the late 1800s, in groves planted over old vineyards and still called vigne. The fruit hangs on the branch until late spring and is picked in May and June. It is a Slow Food Presidium and a traditional product of Calabria.
- Rough, pale-orange skin on a fruit of around 180 grams
- Firm, yellow-orange flesh, full of juice
- Sweetness and acidity in balance, thanks to slow ripening on the branch
How to enjoy it. Eat it fresh, in segments or a fruit salad; locally it is also turned into liqueurs. Trebisacce holds a festival for it every May.
