Taurasi DOCG, Irpinia's Aglianico made for long ageing
Made from Aglianico, a late-ripening grape picked in October and November across seventeen hill villages around Taurasi, it ages at least three years, one in cask, or four for the Riserva. It has been a DOCG since 1993.
- Deep ruby when young, moving towards garnet and orange glints over the years
- Black plum, blueberry, spice, liquorice, tobacco and leather; lively tannin and a long finish
- Given 15-20 years or longer in bottle, it moves towards undergrowth, mushroom and leather
How to enjoy it. Serve at 16-18 °C with braises, wild boar, lamb, grilled meat and long-aged cheeses such as caciocavallo podolico; with age it also stands up to truffle.
