Ostuni (wine)
DOC
Ostuni DOC: rare local grapes from the White City, led by Ottavianello
Recognised since 1973, the Ostuni appellation keeps alive varieties you will barely find anywhere else. Its white pairs Impigno with Francavilla, while the red exists only as Ottavianello, a grape the regional register lists as at risk of genetic erosion.
- Ottavianello pours cherry-pink to pale ruby: a light red, dry and harmonious on the palate
- A straw-gold white with hints of peach and hawthorn blossom, dry and fresh
- Once Ostuni alone made Ottavianello as a single-variety wine, and the DOC carries that on
How to enjoy it. The balanced, lingering white and the delicately scented Ottavianello favour freshness over power. These are wines to bring to the table without ceremony.
