Honeys of the L'Aquila Apennines
Honeys of the L'Aquila Apennines: savory, ironwort and high mountain wildflower
Three honeys gathered above 850 metres in the mountains around L'Aquila: winter savory from the Gran Sasso, ironwort from Sirente Velino and a wildflower honey from the summer pastures. The wild herbs of Abruzzo's parks make this Slow Food Presidium one to taste side by side.
- Light amber savory honey that crystallises early into a fine, velvety grain
- Very pale ironwort honey that stays liquid for long, floral on the nose and palate
- Wildflower honey that shifts through summer, gentle in spring and bolder late
How to enjoy it. Line them up on three spoons to compare, then pair them with Gran Sasso sheep's cheeses such as Castel del Monte canestrato and Farindola pecorino, as local guides recommend.
