Liquore di limone di Sorrento (Sorrento lemon liqueur)
Liquore di limone di Sorrento: lemon peel from straw-shaded terraces
It is made between Vico Equense, Massa Lubrense and the island of Capri from the peel of the Ovale di Sorrento, a lemon grown on terraces beneath straw matting. For centuries a liqueur families made for their own table, it is now a geographical indication for spirit drinks, its colour and scent coming from the fruit alone.
- Peel infused cold for 48 hours or more, from at least 250 grams of lemons per litre
- At least 30% ABV, with no added flavourings or colourings: the scent is all peel
- Cloudy when young and clearing over time; the label states the lemons used per litre
How to enjoy it. Drink it after a meal, as the peninsula always has, or find it in desserts such as limoncello babà, delizie al limone and lemon sorbet.
