Confetti di Sulmona (sugared almonds)
Confetti di Sulmona, a Pizzuta di Avola almond in a shell of sugar
Sulmona, Ovid's birthplace, has been home to master confectioners since the late Middle Ages, and its name is now bound to these sugared almonds. Each holds a Pizzuta di Avola almond under its sugar coat, and a museum in town tells the craft through copper pans and period machines.
- At the centre, a choice almond: by tradition only the Pizzuta di Avola
- Listed as a traditional Abruzzo product (PAT) among pastries and confectionery
- A craft that also builds things: favours, decorations, once even rosaries made of confetti
How to enjoy it. They are the gift of every celebration, weddings above all: set them out on the day itself or wrap them as favours for your guests.
